The Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Andaman & Nicobar Administration, has announced the initiation of mandatory e-KYC for all ration card holders in compliance with the Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS) Amendment Order, 2005, as notified by the Government of India. The process will be required to be completed once every five years.

According to the notification, no member will be eligible for a separate ration card before the age of 18 years. For children below five years, Aadhaar numbers will be captured, and e-KYC will be updated within a year after the child turns five.

The department has also clarified that ration cards of beneficiaries who have not availed their entitled benefits in the last six months, or those found to be duplicate either within or outside the UT, will be temporarily disabled. However, such beneficiaries will be given a three-month window to revalidate their eligibility by submitting necessary documents and completing the e-KYC process.

This move is part of the Government of India’s recent 2025 amendment notification aimed at strengthening transparency and efficiency in the public distribution system. (Story Based on PR)
