Mr. E S Rajesh, Pramukh Panchayat Samiti, Campbell Bay has thanked Mr. Keshav Chandra, IAS, Chief Secretary, Andaman and Nicobar Administration and Mr. Binay Bhushan, IAS, Secretary (Power) for fulfilling his demand of hiring local manpower through Panchayats for Electricity Department by granting appropriate number of man days.
Mr. E S Rajesh informed Nicobar Times that during his first meeting with the Chief Secretary he raised the issue of non-availability of manpower with the Electricity Department at Campbell Bay. Mr. Rajesh also suggested bringing back the old system of hiring manpower for the Electricity Department through panchayats. He also took up the same issue with Secretary (Power).
Mr. Rajesh further informed that 2000 Man Days (for utilisation till 31st March 2023) were recently granted for the hiring of manpower through Panchayats by Electricity Department, Campbell Bay. Mr. Rajesh added that now Electricity Department will be able to hire local manpower through Panchayats on the recommendation of the Pradhan.
Mr. Rajesh added that the acceptance of his demand by the Chief Secretary and Secretary (Power) will ensure uninterrupted power to the residents of Great Nicobar Island and a lot of improvement will be seen in the Power Sector, in forthcoming days.
Mr. Rajesh has also requested the authorities to provide the required amount of Aerial Bunched Cables for Great Nicobar so that the power supply to rural areas of the Island, especially Laxmi Nagar Panchayat, can be improved.
Mr. Rajesh informed, at present the residents of Laxmi Nagar Panchayat are undergoing a lot of problems because of the faulty cable which has not been changed since after the Tsunami.
