Mr. E S Rajesh, Pramukh of Panchayat Samiti, Campbell Bay, conducted a thorough inspection of the Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Campbell Bay on May 21, 2024, to assess the facilities available for patients.

During his visit, Mr. Rajesh noted a significant lapse in maintaining proper Outpatient Department (OPD) timings, leading to prolonged waiting periods for patients awaiting consultations with physicians. He meticulously examined various amenities provided at the PHC.

Directly engaging with the Medical Officer Incharge, Mr. Rajesh urged for the immediate implementation of proper OPD schedules to mitigate patient inconveniences. Additionally, he emphasised the necessity of maintaining cleanliness throughout the premises, addressing concerns over unclean toilets and other hygiene-related issues.

Further addressing the shortcomings, Mr. Rajesh urged the Assistant Commissioner of Great Nicobar to conduct an inspection of the PHC and undertake requisite measures to enhance patient convenience.

Multiple reports highlighting patient grievances at PHC Campbell Bay have surfaced, with unclean facilities and insufficient equipment emerging as major concerns. Of particular note is the absence of essential equipment in the dental unit, such as functional dental chairs and dental x-ray machines. Residents have also voiced demands for reinstating ultrasound services at the PHC to obviate the need for pregnant women to travel to Port Blair for scans.

Moreover, the deteriorating condition of several sections of the PHC building underscores the immediate need for maintenance to ensure patient comfort and safety.

Mr. Rajesh’s inspection and subsequent directives underscore a commitment to addressing the healthcare needs of the community, with a focus on improving service delivery and infrastructure at PHC Campbell Bay.

As efforts to bolster healthcare services continue, stakeholders anticipate tangible improvements to enhance patient experiences and overall healthcare outcomes in the region.
