In a move aimed at maintaining the integrity of the electoral process, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced a ban on the conducting and publishing of exit polls from 7 am on April 19, 2024, until 6:30 pm on June 1, 2024. This prohibition encompasses all forms of media, including print and electronic platforms.
The decision comes amidst the General Elections-2024, with the ECI emphasizing the need to uphold fair and transparent practices throughout the electoral period. During this restricted period, dissemination of exit poll results or any election-related matter through any means is strictly prohibited.
Additionally, the ECI has reinforced regulations regarding the display of election-related content on electronic media. According to the commission, the airing of any election matter, including the results of opinion polls or surveys, is banned within the 48 hours leading up to the conclusion of polling.
It is essential to note that the Representation of People Act, 1951, contains provisions to address any violations of these regulations, underscoring the seriousness with which the electoral authorities regard compliance with the stipulated guidelines.
In light of these developments, all constituents within the Andaman & Nicobar Islands Parliamentary Constituency have been urged to exercise vigilance and adhere to the statutory provisions. The electorate is reminded to refrain from engaging in any activities that contravene the established regulations, thereby ensuring the smooth conduct of the electoral process.
