The Education Department of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration successfully organized a two-day Special Hearing Aid Distribution and Fitting Camp under the Inclusive Education initiative. The camp was held on 1st August at Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Sri Vijaya Puram, and on 2nd August at the Deputy Education Office, Wimberlygunj.

The initiative focused on early identification, intervention, and support for children with hearing impairments. Experts from the Medical, Rehabilitation, and Education Departments assessed students and recommended tailored solutions to address hearing challenges, thereby improving their learning and communication abilities.

The camp was spearheaded by Dr. Ravi Kapoor, Senior Audiologist from Government Medical College Hospital, Chandigarh. He was supported by an ENT Specialist and an Audiologist from GB Pant Hospital, ensuring comprehensive and technically sound evaluations.

Over the course of the two days, 31 students with hearing impairment underwent detailed audiological and ENT evaluations. Based on clinical findings, personalized recommendations were provided, including the use of hearing aids, assistive listening devices, and, where necessary, referrals for further medical intervention. A total of 26 hearing aids were fitted to students in need.

In addition to assessments, the camp featured awareness and counselling sessions for parents, family members, teachers, and Special Educators. These sessions were designed to equip stakeholders with essential knowledge and practical strategies to support children with hearing impairments at home and in school.

The programme was conducted under the overall supervision and guidance of Mr. Vikram Singh, Director (Education), Andaman and Nicobar Administration.
