A delegation from the Education Department Part-time Employees Union (CITU), including President P. Sathyapal, General Secretary R. Surendran Pillai, and Treasurer Bindu Kumari, met with the Secretary of Education, A & N Administration today. The meeting focused on discussing the extension of services for part-time employees in the Education Department, including teachers, ayahs, craft instructors, and attendants.
The delegation presented a letter to the Secretary (Education), highlighting that part-time employees reported for duty as usual after the summer vacation. However, many Heads of Schools have not accepted their duty reports, citing the lack of an official extension order from the Education Department.
The Union urged the Secretary to issue extension orders for the part-time employees, similar to those issued for contract teachers, to ensure that their salaries for July 2024 can be processed alongside other employees. They also requested that the Secretary direct Heads of Institutions and Zonal Officers to accept duty reports from part-time employees starting July 1, 2024.
The Secretary (Education) assured the delegation that immediate steps would be taken to resolve the issue, offering hope for a swift resolution for the concerned employees.
