In a bid to ensure the fullest participation of the electors in General Elections-2024, the Election Commission of India has introduced special measures, aiming for 100% active voter engagement. Through Order No.3/4/4/ID/2024/SDR/Vol.I dated March 19, 2024, the Commission has rolled out initiatives to encourage citizens to exercise their fundamental democratic right.
Under these directives, individuals who are unable to produce their Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC) can furnish one of several alternative photo identity documents to establish their identity. Among the approved alternatives are Aadhaar Card, MNREGA Job Card, Passbooks with photograph issued by Bank/Post Office, Health Insurance Smart Card issued under the Ministry of Labour scheme, Driving License, PAN Card, Smart Card issued by RGI under NPR, Indian Passport, Pension document with photograph, Service Identity Cards with Photograph issued to employees by Central/State Govt./PSUs/Public Limited Companies, Official Identity Cards issued to MPs/MLAs/MLCs, and Unique Disability ID (UDID) Card.
Furthermore, the Election Commission has devised specific strategies to facilitate and reach out to voters. One such initiative involves the distribution of Voter Information Slips through Booth Level Officers of respective Polling Stations. These slips provide crucial information such as the serial number of the electoral roll of the Polling Station, date of poll, and polling hours. However, it’s important to note that Voter Information Slips alone will not serve as proof of voter identity.
Meanwhile, the electors residing in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands Parliamentary Constituency has been urged to exercise their democratic right by casting their votes. The polling date for the constituency is slated for April 19, 2024, with polling hours from 7 am to 6 pm.
With these measures in place, the Election Commission aims to streamline the voting process and ensure the inclusivity and integrity of the electoral system in the General Elections-2024.
