The stage is set for the crucial elections to decide the leadership of Zilla Parishad, South Andaman for its third-year term, with voting slated for May 8th, 2024, at the Conference Hall of Atal Bhavan (Zilla Parishad Bhavan) commencing at 11 AM.

Emphasising gender representation, the position of Adhyaksha for the third year term is reserved for women, adding a significant dynamic to the electoral process.

The electorate, comprising the 18 Zilla Parishad Members of South Andaman & Great Nicobar, will exercise their franchise to choose the Adhyaksha & Up-Adhyaksh who will lead the Parishad for the ensuing year.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), having held both the Adhyaksha and Up-Adhyaksh positions during the initial two-year term, faces a keen contest as the elections approach. The outcome will be closely watched to determine whether the BJP can maintain its stronghold on the leadership of the Zilla Parishad for the third consecutive year.

In a recent surprise, the Congress candidate, Sudeep Rai Sharma, secured victory in the elections for PBMC Chairperson, wresting the position from the BJP+TDP Alliance for the Port Blair Municipal Council’s third-year term.

With political stakes high, the upcoming elections for the leadership of Zilla Parishad, South Andaman, promise an engaging and pivotal event in the region’s political landscape.
