The Electricity Department, Andaman and Nicobar Administration, has announced that an additional 1.5 MW of power has been successfully integrated into the grid at the existing 4 MW Power Plant in Swaraj Dweep on October 30. This enhancement, achieved through the department’s sustained efforts under the guidance of the A&N Administration, has increased the total available power capacity from 4.4 MW to 5.9 MW, providing much-needed relief to electricity consumers on the island.

The department reaffirmed its commitment to augmenting power generation capacity across all islands through diesel generator (DG) sets and renewable energy (RE) projects to bridge the demand–supply gap.

In line with this, consumers have been urged to actively participate in the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana (PM-SGMBY) by installing Rooftop Solar (RTS) systems in their premises. The scheme offers substantial government subsidies, making solar power installation more affordable and accessible for residents.

Active participation in this initiative, the department noted, will help advance the Administration’s mission of de-dieselization, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, and promote energy sustainability and environmental greening across the islands.
