The Electricity Department’s NRSE Division will actively participate in the upcoming Island Coconut Festival 2025 by setting up a dedicated stall (Stall No. 39) at the ITF Ground, Sri Vijaya Puram, on May 30 and 31. The Department’s presence at the festival aims to raise awareness about the Government of India’s flagship rooftop solar initiative — the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.
The scheme is designed to empower households to generate their own electricity by installing rooftop solar systems, thereby reducing their dependency on conventional power sources and cutting down on electricity bills.
Key Highlights of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana:
– Free Electricity: Eligible households can receive up to 300 units of free electricity per month, based on the installed system’s capacity.
– Government Subsidy: Financial assistance of ₹78,000 is available for systems up to 2KW, and ₹46,800 for an additional 1KW — totaling ₹1,24,800 for a 3KW system.
– Lower Bills: Consumers can significantly reduce their monthly electricity expenses by generating their own power.
– Streamlined Process: The application and installation process is simplified through the official portal https://pmsuryaghar.gov.in, with complete support provided by the Electricity Department.
Visitors to the Island Coconut Festival are encouraged to stop by Stall No. 39 to learn more about the scheme. Department officials will assist with spot registration for interested consumers, provide guidance on required documentation, and address queries related to solar rooftop installations.
Consumers interested in availing the scheme are advised to bring their Electricity Account Number or a recent electricity bill for immediate registration at the venue.
This initiative reflects the Government’s ongoing commitment to promoting renewable energy, empowering households through sustainable solutions, and creating a greener, energy-secure future for the islands.
