The Electricity Department has informed the general public that with the onset of summer and the rise in ambient temperature, there has been a significant increase in power demand, particularly during the evening peak hours from 5.30 PM to 10.30 PM in Sri Vijaya Puram and adjoining areas of South Andaman. As a result, a temporary shortfall in power supply is being experienced during these hours.
All consumers have been advised to use electricity judiciously in view of the power shortage, especially during evening peak hours. The department has further requested residents to avoid the usage of major power-consuming appliances such as air conditioners, motors, ovens, geysers, garden lighting, etc., during the evening peak hours from 5.30 PM to 10.30 PM, and to switch off unnecessary electrical appliances when not in use. This, the department stated, would help in maintaining power supply in Sri Vijaya Puram and adjoining areas without the need for curtailment.
The Electricity Department also stated that it is committed to monitoring the situation for effective compliance and may conduct checks to ensure that demand side management measures are being followed.
