In alignment with directives from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, and under the able guidance of Mr. Keshav Chandra, IAS, Chief Secretary, A & N Administration, and Mr. Devesh Chandra Srivastva, IPS, DGP, ANI, the Police Training School (PTS), Prothrapur of Andaman & Nicobar Police, is conducting a transformative two-day course on New Criminal Laws from May 1st to May 2nd, 2024. This initiative is geared towards empowering officials from crucial sectors such as judiciary, prosecution, law department, prison, and others within the justice system.
The course aims to provide an in-depth understanding of the New Criminal Laws, including the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) – 2023. These laws, scheduled to come into effect from July 1st, 2024, signify a significant leap in our legal framework.
The inauguration ceremony held today witnessed the esteemed presence of dignitaries such as Hon’ble District & Sessions Judge, Mr. Sudhir Kumar, Mr. Bhawani Shankar Sharma, Registrar, Calcutta High Court Circuit Bench at Port Blair, Ms. Monika Bhardwaj, IPS, DIGP (Training), Ms. Arkabrati Neogi, Ld. Chief Judicial Magistrate, Mr. Anupam Kumar Sircar, Ld. Judicial Magistrate, and Mr. Manjeet Sheoran, IPS, Principal (PTS).
This collaborative effort endeavours to equip officials from various sectors including Judiciary, Prosecution, Law Department, Prison, and others with a comprehensive understanding of the evolving legal landscape. By enhancing knowledge and expertise, the course aims to bolster the effectiveness, collaboration, and efficiency of our Criminal Justice System, thereby fostering a fairer and more equitable society.
The curriculum of the course encompasses a wide spectrum of topics, including understanding the nuances of new criminal laws, application of legal principles in practical scenarios, strategies for effective prosecution and defence, ensuring citizen safety and rights within the legal framework, and the role of stakeholders in upholding justice and security. These topics will be covered through physical and online talks by domain experts and legal luminaries.
