The Composite Regional Centre (CRC) Andaman and Nicobar Islands, in collaboration with the Directorate of Education, successfully conducted an awareness program focused on disability-related courses recognized by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI). The event took place at PM Sri GSSS, Campbell Bay, and saw the participation of approximately 70 individuals, primarily from the ST community.

The program was inaugurated by Ms. Bindhu Varma, Zonal Officer-cum-Principal of PM Sri GSSS,  Campbell Bay, who highlighted the crucial role of awareness and education in fostering an inclusive environment. “Creating awareness is vital for developing a society that embraces diversity,” she stated.

Ms. Sumithamol, Director of CRC A&N Islands, spoke about the importance of RCI-recognized courses in equipping individuals with the skills necessary to support and empower persons with disabilities. “We believe that education and awareness are key to creating a more inclusive society,” she emphasized. “By empowering ST students with knowledge about disability-related courses, we aim to inspire them to pursue careers that positively impact the lives of individuals with disabilities.”

The program featured an expert panel, including Mr. T.Y. Abid, a Lecturer in Physiotherapy, Ms. Saranyah, a Rehabilitation Officer at CRC A&N Islands, and Ms. Janifa, a Block Resource Person for Children with Special Needs (CwSN) from Campbell Bay. They conducted informative sessions covering a variety of topics, including an introduction to disabilities, RCI-recognized courses, institutions offering these programs, and the concessions available for ST students. Their insights provided participants with valuable information regarding educational and career opportunities in disability management and rehabilitation.

The program concluded with an engaging discussion among participants, who expressed their gratitude for the knowledge gained and the pathways opened for future endeavours. Mr. Suresh, Block Resource Person from Campbell Bay, delivered a heartfelt vote of thanks, acknowledging the contributions of all speakers and the active participation of students that contributed to the event’s success.

This initiative reinforces the commitment to building an inclusive society where individuals from all backgrounds have access to education and opportunities in disability support and rehabilitation. It aligns with the government’s ongoing efforts to promote inclusivity and provide equal opportunities, especially in remote regions like Campbell Bay.
