In a bid to ensure maximum participation in the upcoming General Elections 2024, the Election Commission of India has rolled out special measures aimed at facilitating the electorate’s exercise of their fundamental democratic right. Through Order No. 3/4/4/ID/2024/SDR/Vol. I dated 19th March 2024, the Commission has implemented initiatives to encourage voter turnout.

ECI has directed that all voters who possess EPIC must present their Elector Photo Identity Card (EPIC) at the polling stations for identification. However, recognising that some electors may not possess an EPIC, alternative photo identity documents have been authorised for establishing their identity. These include Aadhaar Card, MNREGA Job Card, Passbooks with photograph issued by Bank/Post Office, Health Insurance Smart Card issued under the Ministry of Labour scheme, Driving License, PAN Card, Smart Card issued by RGI under NPR, Indian Passport, Pension document with photograph, Service Identity Cards with Photograph issued by Central/State Govt./PSUs/Public Limited Companies, Official Identity Cards issued to MPs/MLAs/MLCs, and Unique Disability ID (UDID) Card by M/o Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India.

To streamline the process and assist voters, the Commission has devised a specific plan involving the distribution of Voter Information Slips through Booth Level Officers. These slips will provide essential details such as the serial number of the electoral roll of the respective polling station and the date and time of the poll. However, it’s important to note that the Voter Information Slip alone will not serve as a valid proof of identification at the polling booth.

Mr. B.S. Jaglan, IAS, the Chief Electoral Officer of A&N Islands, has urged all eligible voters within the Andaman & Nicobar Islands Parliamentary Constituency to exercise their franchise. The polling for Andaman and Nicobar Islands Parliamentary Constituency is scheduled for 19/04/2024, with polling hours from 7 am to 6 pm.

These measures underscore the Election Commission’s commitment to ensuring a smooth and inclusive electoral process, fostering widespread participation and upholding the principles of democracy.
