Katchal is one of the remotest Islands of the Nicobar Group. The Island has still not been connected with Chennai – Andaman and Nicobar Islands Submarine Optical Fiber Cable. Recently BSNL Launched 3G Mobile Services at Katchal Island.

Arun Cable Network of Great Nicobar which had earlier enabled FTTH Connectivity in the Southernmost Village of India by deploying Air Fiber at Great Nicobar has now started BSNL FTTH Services at Katchal by deploying Microwave Link between Kamorta and Katchal.

FTTH Services at Katchal will enable the residents to access high-speed Internet services at par with their counterparts in other CANI-Connected Islands.

The FTTH services could be deployed at Katchal only because of two enterprising youth of Great Nicobar Mr. Rakesh Tirkey and Mr. Kanak Sundaram.

Mr. Rakesh informed Nicobar Times that at present he is laying OFC at Katchal Island and they will soon start issuing connections to the homes of the general public.

Mr. Rakesh further informed that in the initial tests conducted the speed of FTTH at Katchal was at par with that of other Islands.
