Essay and Poster Competitions Announced to Mark World No Tobacco Day 2025

:To mark the observance of World No Tobacco Day 2025, the National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP), in collaboration with the Union Territory Health Mission and the Directorate of Health Services, Andaman and Nicobar Administration, has announced two open competitions aimed at raising awareness about the dangers of tobacco use. The initiative features an Essay Writing Competition and a Poster Making Competition, both of which are open to participants of all age groups.

The theme for both competitions is “World No Tobacco Day 2025: Unmasking the Appeal – Exposing Industry Tactics on Tobacco and Nicotine Products.” The objective is to engage the public in highlighting the deceptive strategies used by the tobacco industry and to foster greater participation in the global movement for a tobacco-free world.

For the Essay Writing Competition, participants are invited to submit original essays in either English or Hindi, with a maximum word limit of 1500 words. Entries must reflect the designated theme and will be judged on the basis of originality, awareness, creativity, and critical thinking.

In the Poster Making Competition, participants are encouraged to submit hand-drawn posters created using traditional art media such as painting, sketching, or crayons. Posters must be made on A2 size paper or half of a standard chart paper and may optionally include thematic text in English or Hindi. All artwork must be original and closely aligned with the competition theme.

Both competitions offer the same prize structure. The first prize winner will receive ₹3,000, the second prize winner ₹2,000, and the third prize winner ₹1,500. Additionally, two consolation prizes of ₹500 each will be awarded in each category.

Participants must submit both physical and electronic copies of their entries. The electronic version should be emailed to ntcp.andaman@gmail.com, with the participant’s name, age, and contact number clearly mentioned. The hard copy of the entry should be sent to the following address: State Nodal Officer – NTCP, Office of the Chief Registrar of Birth and Death, Atlanta Point, Sri Vijaya Puram, Andaman & Nicobar Islands – 744104. The deadline for submission of entries for both competitions is 30 May 2025.

Organizers have emphasized that originality is mandatory, and all submissions will be screened using plagiarism detection and AI-content verification tools. Any entry found to be plagiarized or AI-generated will be disqualified from the competition.
