In response to persistent demand from residents of Shaheed Dweep and Swaraj Dweep, the Directorate of Shipping Services (DSS) has decided to reintroduce evening ferry services from Sri Vijaya Puram.
The Directorate stated that the decision was taken following repeated requests from the island communities seeking a more convenient travel option. With the restoration of the service, direct ferry connectivity will be available from Sri Vijaya Puram to both Shaheed Dweep and Swaraj Dweep.
As per the schedule, a daily ferry service from Sri Vijaya Puram to Shaheed Dweep will depart at 2:30 pm and arrive at Shaheed Dweep at 4:15 pm. The vessel will depart from Shaheed Dweep at 4:30 pm and reach Sri Vijaya Puram at 6:15 pm.
Another daily ferry service will operate from Sri Vijaya Puram to Swaraj Dweep, departing at 5:00 pm and arriving at Swaraj Dweep at 7:15 pm. The return journey will commence the next day at 5:30 am from Swaraj Dweep, reaching Shaheed Dweep at 6:40 am and departing again at 6:45 am before arriving at Sri Vijaya Puram at 8:45 am.
The Directorate informed that the revised ferry services will commence from March 9, 2026. Issuance of passenger tickets for the following week will begin from March 6.
It was also stated that the existing 2:30 pm ferry service from Sri Vijaya Puram to Swaraj Dweep via Shaheed Dweep will be withdrawn with effect from March 9.
The Directorate of Shipping Services reiterated its commitment to providing safe, reliable and commuter-friendly maritime transport services for the residents of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
