In a significant move to promote voter education and awareness, the Deputy Commissioner of Nicobar, Ms. Jyoti Kumari, IAS, inaugurated an EVM Demonstration Centre at the District Office in Car Nicobar on February 5, 2024. This initiative aims to empower local citizens with hands-on experience and knowledge about Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), fostering a deeper understanding of India’s democratic voting system.

The EVM Demonstration Centre provides an interactive platform for all citizens to familiarize themselves with the functioning of EVMs. Through practical demonstrations and informative sessions, visitors can gain insights into the voting process, troubleshoot potential concerns, and build confidence in using EVMs during elections.

“This centre is a crucial step towards ensuring inclusive and informed participation in the upcoming General Election 2024,” stated Ms. Kumari. “By providing a platform for hands-on experience and addressing any apprehensions, we aim to empower every voter and achieve the Election Commission of India’s target for maximum voter turnout.”

The District EVM Demonstration Centre will be open to the public on all working days from 9 am to 5 pm. The Deputy Commissioner has encouraged the general public, including tribal leaders, to visit the centre and gain valuable knowledge about EVMs. This initiative is expected to significantly contribute to increased voter awareness and participation in the upcoming elections.
