In a momentous ceremony held at the Office of the District Administration, South Andaman, Ms. Veditha Reddy, District Election Officer (South Andaman)/Returning Officer, A&N Islands Parliamentary Constituency, officially flagged off the EVM Mobile Demonstration Van. This initiative is geared towards creating awareness about Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) among the general public in anticipation of the upcoming General Election-2024.
The EVM Mobile Demonstration Van, a pioneering venture in the region, rolled out with a dual purpose – to familiarize citizens with the use of EVMs and to address any concerns they may have regarding the electoral technology. Equipped with an operational EVM and staffed by knowledgeable personnel, the mobile van functions as a roving educational hub, making stops at various locations to educate citizens on the functioning and reliability of EVMs.
Simultaneously, the inauguration of the EVM Demonstration Centre within the premises of the Office of the District Administration, South Andaman, marked another significant step in this awareness campaign. This centre serves as a dedicated space for individuals seeking hands-on experience with electoral technology, aiming to demystify the voting process and promptly respond to any queries the public may have regarding EVMs.
The overarching goal of this initiative is to foster transparency and trust in the electoral process by empowering citizens with comprehensive knowledge about the technology that plays a pivotal role in shaping their democratic choices. As the nation gears up for the General Election-2024, the launch of the EVM Mobile Demonstration Van and the activation of the EVM Demonstration Centre underscore the commitment of election authorities to ensure an informed and engaged electorate.
