Excise Raids in Mayabunder: 44 Bottles of Illegal Liquor Seized

In a major crackdown on the illegal liquor trade, the North & Middle Andaman District Police conducted a series of excise raids across Mayabunder on 4 May 2025, leading to the seizure of 44 bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL).

The operation was spearheaded by Inspector S. Kannan, Station House Officer of Police Station Mayabunder, with a dedicated team comprising Sub-Inspectors Benedict and C. Manivannan, and Police Constables Radika Kujur, Mukta Sarkar, Sameer Ali, Abdul Asis, Ruth, Jared Rodreick, and Chanden Sen.

Acting on credible inputs and prior surveillance, the team carried out targeted searches at two locations—Karmatang 10 and Rest Camp. During these raids, a total of 44 IMFL bottles were found stored without valid licenses, in direct violation of the Excise Regulation.

The seized liquor was confiscated on the spot, and legal action has been initiated against the accused individuals under the relevant provisions of the law.

The operation was conducted under the overall supervision of Mr. Ankesh Yadav, DANIPS, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Diglipur.

Police officials said the crackdown is part of ongoing efforts to curb the illegal sale and distribution of liquor in the region. Authorities have urged the public to report any information regarding criminal or illicit activities to their nearest police station or by calling 100, 112, or 03192-273344. The identity of informants will be kept confidential, and suitable rewards will be given for credible leads.
