A Minnie Bay resident has been defrauded of more than ₹21 lakh after falling prey to a cyber scam that promised lucrative earnings for completing online hotel rating tasks.

According to the FIR filed at the Cyber Crime Police Station on 14th August 2025, the woman came across a Facebook advertisement on August 3 from a page called Nexustechnology.com. The ad claimed individuals could earn between ₹30,000 and ₹50,000 by giving 5-star ratings to hotels. When she clicked the link, she was contacted on Telegram by an account named @Kunal6952, which handled her “verification” and explained how the system worked.

She was soon added to a Telegram group named Nexustechnology, where she was assigned tasks. After completing initial tasks, she invested ₹5,000, and shortly thereafter, ₹6,500 was credited to her ICICI Bank account — a deliberate move by the fraudsters to win her trust.

The woman was then asked to join another group, Nexustechnology Premium, which required a joining fee of ₹1.34 lakh. Believing she would gain higher returns, she transferred the amount. After this, she was repeatedly asked to make further payments for completing tasks, unlocking bonuses, and enabling withdrawals.

Between August 3 and August 7, she transferred a total of ₹21,15,678 through UPI, NEFT, and RTGS to multiple bank accounts across ICICI, HDFC, SBI, Canara Bank, Indian Overseas Bank, Axis Bank, Yes Bank, Federal Bank, Central Bank of India, and even wallets like Mobikwik. Despite repeated payments, she was denied access to withdraw her supposed earnings. When more money was demanded, she realized it was a scam.

She immediately reported the matter on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (complaints registered on August 9 and 10) before filing an FIR. Police have booked the case under Sections 318(4) and 319(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
