A brutal assault took place in Burma Nallah, South Andaman, when a man attacked a farmer couple with an iron rod allegedly over a petty dispute regarding vegetables on 10th February 2025. The incident occurred around 3 PM when the victim, Bapan Ghosh, and his wife, Sadhana Ghosh, were working on their farm.

According to the FIR lodged at Pahargaon Police Station, the assailant, identified as Raja Malik, had repeatedly taken vegetables from the couple without paying. Malik grew hostile towards the couple when Bapan Ghosh refused to give him free vegetables anymore, citing the costs involved.

On February 10, Malik called out to the couple while they were working in their field. Bapan told him he would come over once he finished his work. However, Malik began threatening them. When Bapan’s wife approached Malik and questioned him, he struck her on the head with an iron rod, causing her to collapse. As Bapan rushed to help her, Malik attacked him as well, hitting him twice on the head with the rod before fleeing the scene.

The injured couple was taken to PHC Garacharma by labourers, where they received initial treatment before being referred to G.B. Pant Hospital for further care. Sadhana Ghosh required 10 stitches on her head, while Bapan Ghosh received 9 stitches.

An attempt to murder case has been registered against Raja Malik under section 109 of the BNS, 2023.
