The Nationwide Pre-Kharif campaign ‘Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan’, launched on 29th May 2025, is being implemented with full vigour across all zones of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Aimed at empowering the farming community, the campaign is spreading awareness about Central Government agricultural schemes and modern farming technologies, with a strong focus on enhancing productivity and sustainability.

In the Union Territory, the campaign is being jointly carried out by officials from the Directorate of Agriculture, Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), and other relevant stakeholders. Farmers from various corners of the Islands, including rural and remote areas, are actively participating in the campaign.

By the fourth day of the initiative, numerous awareness activities such as camps, demonstrations, door-to-door field visits, sports events, and evening village meetings had already taken place. The widespread outreach has seen substantial attendance from the farming community, reflecting strong interest and engagement.

Remarkably, officials have extended the campaign even to the remote Nancowrie group of Islands, travelling by boat to ensure that no farmer is left out. Farmers in these distant locations have also shown keen interest in the awareness programmes, underscoring the inclusive and comprehensive nature of the campaign.

The campaign’s flagship Krishi Raths are making their way through far-flung areas, equipped with audio systems and informative banners. These mobile units are delivering messages about agricultural schemes and best practices directly to farmers, ensuring effective communication even in the most inaccessible regions.

So far, a total of 42 awareness camps have been held across the Islands, drawing the participation of 3,239 farmers. In alignment with the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative, 14 fruit-bearing saplings were planted during the campaign.

According to a press release from the Directorate of Agriculture, the campaign will continue in phases until 12th June 2025, covering various blocks and villages. The ongoing efforts aim to ensure that every farmer is equipped with knowledge and access to support systems for holistic agricultural development.
