The protest by farmers of Great Nicobar will enter its eighth day on 29th of November 2021. Complete Campbell Bay Bandh and Chakka Jam has been called by the farmers of Great Nicobar Island. Small Traders Association, Campbell Bay has also decided to support the Campbell Bay Bandh called by the farmers and all shops in Campbell Bay will remain closed on Monday in support of the demands of the farmers.
The farmers of Great Nicobar are demanding from the administration to start the procurement of Copra on Minimum Support Price and the establishment of a permanent copra procurement centre at Campbell Bay.
Earlier on the 22nd of November 2021, the farmers started their protest with a Chakka Jam at Campbell Bay and later they started indefinite dharna near Fisheries Market in the main bazaar.
The farmers have been patiently protesting for the last seven days but no response from the Administration has been received so far on their demands. The protesting members of the farmer’s community are getting impatient day by day as no one got back to them with any word from the responsible authorities.
Both Bharatiya Janata Party and Indian National Congress are also supporting the demands of the farmers.
The Chakka Jam and Campbell Bay Bandh by the farmers of Great Nicobar will bring a lot of hardships for the general public, but everyone seems to be supporting the farmers so that their demands are heard and fulfilled by the administration as early as possible.
