Humfrygunj Police arrested a Female Vegetable Vendor on Thursday evening and seized 1,080 grams (1.08 kg) of illicit ganja from her possession near the Dumping Yard, Rubber Plantation area at Guptapara.
According to the FIR, Sub-Inspector Gaurav Banerjee, SHO PS Humfrygunj, received specific information that the woman would be arriving at Guptapara to deliver cannabis to an unidentified person. Acting on the input, a raiding team was formed, and Mr. Brij Mohan Meena, SDPO Bambooflat, also joined the operation.
The police team, comprising SI Gaurav Banerjee, SI Ajitabh Kumar Das, ASI (SG) Amal Kumar Das, HC (SG)/2118 Premeela, PC/2734 Raja, PC/2873 Reba Mazumder, PC/1784 N. Mohammed Shafi, PC/1778 Pradip Das and HG(R)/80 K. Balakrishna, reached the spot. The woman was intercepted after she alighted from a private bus carrying a blue-coloured bag.
Upon checking the bag in the presence of independent witnesses, the police recovered a polythene packet containing suspected ganja. The substance was tested using a drug detection kit and confirmed to be marijuana. On weighing, the seized contraband was found to be 1,080 grams.
The ganja was seized under proper legal procedures and sealed at the spot. The Female Vegetable Vendor was arrested under Section 20(b)(ii)B of the NDPS Act, 1985.
