An FIR has been filed against an unknown individual for allegedly setting a tree ablaze near Vijay Tailoring Shop, close to Zero Point in Campbell Bay. The incident resulted in minor damage to the roofing of a nearby house.
The Fire Station Incharge at Campbell Bay reported the matter to the local Police Station for the registration of the FIR. According to the report, on April 21, 2024, at 20:37 hours, a distress call was received at Fire Station Campbell Bay informing about a fire outbreak in a tree at Zero Point near Vijay Tailoring Shop, Campbell Bay.
Upon receiving the alert, the fire brigade swiftly responded, dispatching a crew to the scene with water tender. Upon arrival, they discovered the tree engulfed in flames, with several branches fallen onto a nearby semi RCC house with tin sheet roofing, resulting in partial damage.
The fire was effectively contained and extinguished within thirty minutes, thanks to the efforts of the fire brigade personnel, assisted by members of the public. Subsequent investigations suggested that the fire was deliberately set to weaken the tree’s roots, causing it to collapse. This unfortunate incident also led to partial damage to the nearby semi RCC house.
The prompt response of the fire brigade prevented further escalation of the situation, averting major damage. However, the incident has raised suspicions of arson, prompting the need for a thorough investigation to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
The estimated loss from the incident is calculated to be around Rs. 50,000. Fortunately, there were no casualties reported as a result of the incident.
