The First Assistant Commissioner Cup Inter-School Football Tournament concluded on 11th January 2025 at Katchal Island, bringing the Nancowrie Sub-Division together in a grand celebration of sportsmanship and community spirit. The tournament featured six under-17 boys’ teams from local schools, competing passionately over two days for the coveted championship title.
The event, which began on 10th January 2025, was inaugurated by Mr. Aditya Sangotra, Assistant Commissioner, Nancowrie, in the presence of Mr. Mohammed Yunus M, Block Development Officer; Mr. Om Prakash, Assistant Education Officer; and other officials, alongside an enthusiastic public. The participating schools included Govt. Model Senior Secondary School, Goal Tekry (Kamorta); Govt. Senior Secondary School, Champin (Nancowry); Govt. Senior Secondary School, Kapanga (Katchal); Govt. Senior Secondary School, Bangali (Teressa); Govt. Model Secondary School, Kamorta; and Govt. Secondary School, Kuitasuk (Chowra).
The final match, held on 11th January, saw the home team from Govt. Senior Secondary School, Kapanga, deliver a stellar performance to claim the championship trophy. They defeated Govt. Secondary School, Kuitasuk, in a thrilling contest, much to the delight of the audience. The tournament’s opening and closing ceremonies were enriched with vibrant cultural and traditional performances by students, leaving the crowd captivated and adding a festive charm to the proceedings.
During the prize distribution ceremony, Mr. Sangotra presented the championship trophy to the victorious team from Govt. Senior Secondary School, Kapanga, and the runner-up trophy to Govt. Secondary School, Kuitasuk. Individual awards for outstanding performances were also distributed, including Best Player of the Tournament, Fastest Goal of the Tournament, Best Striker, Best Defender, and Best Goalkeeper. The awardees were felicitated with cash prizes in recognition of their remarkable skills and contributions.
In his address, Mr. Sangotra praised the players for their exceptional sportsmanship and lauded the tournament’s organizers for fostering unity, discipline, and healthy competition among the youth. He emphasized the importance of such events in promoting teamwork and a sense of camaraderie within the community. The success of this landmark tournament has set a strong foundation for future inter-school sporting events in the region.
