Mr. TSG Bhasker, Campaign Committee Chairman, ANTCC (Andaman and Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee) has filed a Public Interest Litigation to secure 100% Reservation in Jobs in the UT of Andaman and Nicobar Islands for the Islanders.
The PIL is listed on 13th March 2023 in the Division Bench of the Circuit Bench of the Hon’ble Calcutta High Court at Port Blair.
The PIL is listed under the heading Motion. Mr. Bhasker has appointed senior Advocate Mr. Phatick Chandra Das (P.C Das) to argue his case before the court.
100% Reservation in Jobs for the residents of Andaman and Nicobar Islands is an old demand. No political party opposes the demand for 100% Job Reservation for Islanders.
Recruitment for 500+ Group C Posts in Andaman and Nicobar Administration is underway, and thousands of non-Islanders have also applied for the posts. Allowing thousands of non-Islanders to apply for a few posts advertised by Andaman and Nicobar Administration has resulted in dissatisfaction among the local youth, political parties and general public.
Jobs are scarce in the Islands and the Govt. is the largest employer. The contention is if mainlanders are allowed to compete in the recruitment examinations, then most Islanders will have no chance of qualifying due to several disadvantages. Islanders, especially those hailing from remote regions, are disadvantaged in terms of the quality of education and other opportunities.
