In a significant step towards promoting competency-based education and improving the quality of learning in India, the National Assessment Regulator, PARAKAH, in collaboration with the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), is set to conduct the first-ever State Education Achievement Survey (SEAS-2023) on November 3, 2023. This survey aims to assess the learning competencies of students at the end of the foundational, preparatory, and middle stages of their education.
SEAS-2023 is a groundbreaking initiative that represents a shift away from traditional rote learning methods toward competency-based education. The adoption of competency-based learning is expected to facilitate holistic development in students, promoting a deeper understanding of subjects and real-world problem-solving skills.
The survey will encompass students in Grades 3, 6, and 9 and will be conducted in selected schools across all States and Union Territories (UTs) at the Block level. It is expected to serve as a valuable tool for identifying areas of improvement and forming evidence-based policies to enhance the overall quality of education in the country.
State participation in SEAS-2023 is pivotal for the ongoing efforts to elevate the educational landscape in India. The survey will provide critical data and insights that can be used to tailor interventions at the block level, addressing specific challenges and promoting inclusive development.
A total of approximately 6,500 students hailing from all nine Educational Blocks, encompassing 145 schools under various managements, in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, are slated to participate in SEAS-2023.
SEAS-2023 is expected to be a significant step forward in the quest for a more comprehensive and competency-based education system in India, helping to ensure that students are well-prepared for the challenges of the 21st century.
