In a bid to promote freshwater aquaculture across the Islands, the Department of Fisheries, Andaman and Nicobar Administration, has initiated the distribution of Indian Major Carp fish seeds to farmers at approved rates.
Marking the first phase of this initiative, a total of 81 packets of fish seeds were distributed to 39 fish farmers from Calicut and Beodnabad Gram Panchayats on July 3, 2025. The distribution event was held in the presence of Mr. T. Yaghambaram, Pradhan of Calicut Gram Panchayat, and Mr. R. Parmasivam, Pradhan of Beodnabad Gram Panchayat.
During the event, fish farmers received guidance on pond maintenance and feeding schedules to enhance the survival rate and growth of the fish seedlings, ultimately helping them achieve higher yields and better economic returns.
The Department has announced that the distribution schedule for other Panchayats will be released in advance to ensure maximum participation and awareness among fish farmers across the Islands.
