Fisheries Dept. Invites Applications for Boat Subsidy Scheme to Boost Island Fish Production

The Department of Fisheries, Andaman and Nicobar Administration, has invited applications from eligible residents of the Islands for financial assistance under its UT Plan Scheme titled ‘Subsidy for Construction/Purchase of Motorized/Mechanized Fishing Boats’. The initiative aims to enhance fish production by supporting local fishers, Scheduled Tribes, unemployed youth, entrepreneurs, and fisheries cooperatives.

Under the scheme, beneficiaries will receive subsidies on the cost of constructing or purchasing fishing boats, with the following pattern of assistance:

• General fishers, local unemployed youth, entrepreneurs, and fisheries cooperative societies: Eligible for a subsidy of 50% of the unit cost, as fixed by the Department of Fisheries.

• Scheduled Tribe individuals and tribal cooperative societies: Eligible for a higher subsidy of 75% of the unit cost.

The scheme is open for the financial year 2025–26, and applications have been invited from both municipal and tribal areas across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Interested applicants can collect the application forms and detailed guidelines from the Directorate of Fisheries, Zonal Fisheries Offices in South Andaman and Nicobar, or from the nearest Fisheries Sub-Stations. Forms and guidelines are also available online at the official website of the A&N Administration: https://www.andaman.gov.in.

Completed applications must be submitted to the nearest Fisheries Zonal Office or Sub-Station on or before May 31, 2025.
