In a major boost to freshwater aquaculture, the Department of Fisheries, Andaman & Nicobar Administration, has successfully carried out the local production of fish seeds of Indian Major Carps at its Fish Seed Farm, Nayagaon.

As part of the initiative, 1,250 fingerling-sized fish seeds were airlifted by helicopter services and stocked in the Amrit Sarovar ponds of Nicobar District. Likewise, around 900 fry-sized fish seeds were released into the Amrit Sarovar ponds of South Andaman District. Fish seeds were also distributed among local pisciculturists to encourage inland fish farming.

The Fisheries Department said the effort underscores the Administration’s commitment to sustainable fisheries development, self-reliance in seed production, and strengthening the livelihood of fish farmers across the Islands. (Story Based on PR)
