Fisheries Training Programme on Mud Crab Fattening and Shrimp Farming Announced

Fisheries Training Centre, Marine Hill, Department of Fisheries, in collaboration with ICAR-CIARI, Garacharma, and the Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Aquaculture (RGCA), Kodiyaghat, is set to host a three-day Training Programme on ‘Mud Crab Fattening and Shrimp Farming’ from October 18 to 20, 2023. This initiative, which comes with financial support from the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB), Hyderabad, under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), aims to empower individuals in the field of aquaculture.

The comprehensive program will cover various facets of Brackish-water Aquaculture, including the design and layout of Shrimp and Crab Farms, pre-stocking and stocking management of Shrimp and Crab Aquaculture, food and feeding techniques, and health management strategies. Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to embark on field visits to aquaculture farms and hatcheries as part of the training.

A total of 25 applicants will be selected to undergo this specialised training program, which will equip them with the knowledge and skills required for successful aquaculture practices. Furthermore, the Department of Fisheries will offer ongoing support to the trained individuals, facilitating their entry into commercial activities through the PMMSY scheme.

Applications are now open and invited from interested Fishers, Fish Farmers, Self-Help Groups (SHGs), Entrepreneurs, Tribal members, and Unemployed youths. To apply, individuals can obtain the prescribed application format from the nearest Zonal Fisheries office or Fisheries Sub-Stations. The duly filled applications in the prescribed format must be submitted on or before September 25, 2023.

Selected trainees will receive a Daily Allowance of Rs. 300/- and a Travelling Allowance of Rs. 100/- per day, in addition to lunch and refreshments during the training program.
