Campbell Bay, 10 November 2021
The members of the fishermen community of Campbell Bay had blocked the roads since the 8th of November 2021 to press for their demand of not letting a legally licensed longline fishing boat to operate.
The road blockade ended at about 11:00 Pm on the 10th of November 2021 after an amicable settlement was reached. Things had escalated before the road blockade was lifted as the shopkeepers and the general public gathered this afternoon near the Assistant Commissioner Office and demanded that the administration should take action and remove the road blockades as the general public was facing inconvenience.
The general public and shopkeepers then informed the authorities that they will stay in front of the Assistant Commissioner Office until and unless the road blockades are removed by the Administration.
The general public and shopkeepers were then informed by the authorities that the road blockades will be removed and a heavy police force was deployed at Zero Point.
Section 144 of CrPC was imposed and the police personnel were seemingly ready to take action to remove the road blockade.
Negotiations went on for hours between the authorities and the members of the fishermen community and in the meanwhile, the general public and the shopkeepers stayed in front of the Assistant Commissioner Office building pressure on the administration to remove the road blockades.
The members of the general public and shopkeepers continued to build pressure on the Assistant Commissioner to solve the issue immediately and to remove the road blockades.
Finally, an amicable settlement was reached and the use of force was averted. The members of the fishermen community removed the road blockades and the normal movement of traffic has resumed.
