A virtual meeting of the Fishermen Watch Group (FWG) for North & Middle Andaman District was recently held under the chairmanship of Ms. Sindhu Pillai A., IPS, IGP (L&O). The session was attended by Ms. Shweta K. Sugathan, IPS, SP (D) N&MA, Mr. Chandan G.S, SDPO Rangat, Mr. Ankesh Yadav, SDPO Diglipur, Mr. Tapan Kr. Mondal, Assistant Director of the Fisheries Department, along with SHOs, PMF Unit in-charges, and fishermen from across the district.
During the meeting, fishermen raised a range of operational and administrative issues affecting their livelihoods. Key concerns included unauthorized fishing activities by trawlers, the need for floating jetties and ice plants, improved coordination with enforcement agencies, and other procedural challenges.
Chairperson Ms. Pillai assured the fishermen that all police-related issues would be addressed promptly, while matters involving the Administration would be escalated to the concerned authorities for timely resolution. She acknowledged the hardships faced by the fishing community and reiterated the commitment to supporting their work and safety.
Highlighting the importance of community vigilance, the IGP urged participants to report any criminal activity, drug abuse, or other illegal practices to the Police.
