All mechanised fishing boat owners in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands are being advised only to operate in their designated operational zones. According to Rule 5 (a) i & ii of the A&N Islands Marine Fishing Rules 2004, fishing vessels fitted with inboard engines or outboard motors having engine power of 30 HP and above, including sport fishing vessels, are restricted to fishing only within Zone B (Territorial Waters). This zone encompasses the waters surrounding the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, specifically between 6 and 12 nautical miles from the appropriate baseline.

The Directorate of Fisheries has issued a stern warning to all mechanised fishing vessel owners, emphasising that operations must strictly adhere to the stipulated limits. Any vessel found operating beyond the 12 nautical miles boundary or from a fishing base other than the one allocated as per the Fishing License will face severe consequences. These may include the cancellation of the fishing license or the confiscation of the fishing boat, as per the rules.

The authorities urge all fishing boat owners to comply with these regulations to avoid any punitive actions.

For further details or clarifications, vessel owners are advised to contact the Directorate of Fisheries.
