A five-day chess training programme for students of the Little Andaman Educational Zone commenced on January 5, 2025, with active participation at two separate clusters—PM SHRI Government Model Senior Secondary School (GMSSS), Hutbay, and Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS), R.K. The training programme at the Hutbay cluster was inaugurated by Mr. Prabhash Roy, Principal, PM SHRI GMSSS, Hutbay, who formally launched the sessions by making the ceremonial first move on the chessboard. Addressing the students, he highlighted the importance of chess in developing critical thinking, concentration, and decision-making skills among young learners.

At the GSSS R.K. Pur cluster, the programme was inaugurated by Ms. Darley Samuel, Principal, GSSS, R.K. Pur, who also marked the commencement of the training by making the ceremonial first move. The inauguration ceremony was held in the presence of Mr. Mohd. Saleem, In-charge,

Assistant Supervisor (Sports), who encouraged students to take keen interest in the game and utilise the training to improve their strategic and analytical abilities.

Approximately 150 students from various schools across the Little Andaman Zone are participating in the programme across both clusters. The training sessions are aimed at providing structured coaching, improving competitive skills, and fostering a culture of intellectual sports among school students, while also identifying promising players for future competitions.
