Five-Day Civil Defence Volunteer Training Programme Begins in South Andaman

The Directorate of Disaster Management, Andaman and Nicobar Administration, in collaboration with Civil Defence, South Andaman, has launched a five-day training programme for the first batch of Civil Defence Volunteers (CDVs). The training, which began on 8th July and will continue till 12th July, 2025, is being held at the Training Hall of Aapda Prabandhan Bhawan, Link Road, Goalghar, Sri Vijaya Puram.

Aimed at building disaster preparedness at the community level, the programme focuses on equipping volunteers with essential knowledge and techniques in disaster response, coordination, and management. The initiative is designed to empower CDVs to act as first responders during emergencies, helping to save lives and reduce damage.

Inaugurating the training session, Mr. Arjun Sharma, IAS, Deputy Commissioner and Director (Civil Defence), South Andaman, underscored the importance of dedicated and trained volunteers in disaster scenarios. He emphasized that only those who are well-trained and mentally prepared can respond effectively and professionally in times of crisis.

Ms. Priyanka Kumari, Director (Disaster Management), A&N Administration, expressed her gratitude to the dignitaries, departmental officials, and personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) for their valuable presence and support in making the programme a success.

The inaugural event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Janik Ram, Assistant Director (Admn.), Directorate of Disaster Management. The first technical session following the inauguration was conducted by experts from the Disaster Management and Health Departments.

The training sessions will continue over the next few days, aiming to strengthen local resilience through community-based disaster preparedness.
