A five-day Hands-on Science Laboratory Experiments–Based Training Programme for Laboratory Assistants and Laboratory Attendants was organised by the Science Wing of the Directorate of Education, Andaman and Nicobar Administration, from December 8 to 12, 2025, at three venues across Sri Vijaya Puram. The programme was conducted at Government Model Senior Secondary School, Aberdeen; Government Boys’ Senior Secondary School, Middle Point; and Government RBV Senior Secondary School.

A total of 97 Laboratory Assistants and Laboratory Attendants from various schools across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands participated in the training, aimed at enhancing their practical skills and efficiency in handling science laboratories for Classes IX to XII.

The primary objective of the programme was to strengthen participants’ competencies in conducting laboratory experiments and managing laboratory infrastructure. The training covered identification and proper use of laboratory articles, setting up and handling laboratory apparatus, conducting hands-on experiments, basic repair of laboratory materials, maintenance of stock registers, and safe handling of laboratory equipment.

The sessions were facilitated by Post Graduate Teachers (PGTs) in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology from the host schools, along with Resource Persons from ITI, Dollygunj, who provided technical inputs and practical guidance during the hands-on activities.

On December 9, the Director of Education, Mr. Vikram Singh, interacted with the participants and encouraged them to continuously upgrade their laboratory-related skills. He emphasised the critical role played by laboratory staff in supporting effective science education and urged them to make optimal use of the knowledge gained through the training programme.

The programme concluded with an assessment test to evaluate learning outcomes, followed by the collection of feedback from participants. Certificates were distributed to all participants by Mr. Ram Pravesh, Deputy Director of Education (Science), marking the successful completion of the training.

The function concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Mr. Chanchal Singha Roy, Science Supervisor attached to DDE (Science).
