Five Myanmarese Poachers Apprehended in Joint Anti-Poaching Operation at Landfall Island

Acting on credible information about illegal poaching activities at Landfall Island, a joint anti-poaching operation was launched by the North & Middle Andaman District Police and A&N Command, along with personnel from LOP East Island, IRBn, PS Diglipur, the Indian Coast Guard, and the Forest Department.

During the operation, an engine dinghy was initially spotted in the creeks of Landfall Island, the northernmost island of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The team swiftly apprehended one Myanmarese national found engaged in poaching activities. Suspecting the presence of more poachers in the area, an extensive jungle search operation was immediately launched.

The joint search operation, carried out by LOP East Island and IRBn personnel, resulted in the apprehension of four more Myanmarese nationals and the seizure of another engine dinghy.

The team displayed remarkable courage and alertness, leading to the capture of five Myanmarese nationals and the seizure of a significant quantity of sea cucumbers, deer skin, and various survival articles such as diving tubes, diesel, solar panels with batteries, mobile phones, and compasses.

The apprehended individuals and seized items have been handed over to PS Crime & Economic Offences, Sri Vijaya Puram, where legal action is underway. Meanwhile, search operations continue in the dense jungles of Landfall Island to ensure no poachers remain at large.

The successful operation is a testimony to the seamless coordination between the A&N Police, A&N Command, and other agencies. The operation on the part of the Police was led by Mr. Ankesh Yadav, DANIPS, SDPO Diglipur, under the overall supervision of Ms. Shweta K Sugathan, IPS, Superintendent of Police, North & Middle Andaman District.The police have urged the general public to report any information related to illegal activities or crimes to the nearest police station or contact them at 100, 112, or 03192-273344. Informers’ identities will be kept confidential, and suitable rewards will be given for credible information.
