A vibrant cultural programme showcasing the rich folk traditions of the Islands will be organised today at 5 pm in the auditorium of Tagore Government College of Education (TGCE), Middle Point, to commemorate the World Day of Folklore, observed globally on August 22. The event is being hosted by the Directorate of Art & Culture, A&N Administration.

The Secretary (Art & Culture), A&N Administration, Ms. Jyoti Kumari, IAS, will grace the occasion as the chief guest.

The evening’s highlights include an inter-collegiate folk dance competition and folk song presentations by the winning school teams. Trophies and participation certificates will be awarded to the performers.

Adding depth to the celebration, two special talks have been scheduled. Islands’ historian Dr. Rashida Iqbal will present “Andaman ke Kisse”, narrating historical episodes from the pre-independence era of the Andaman Islands, while Dr. Jochibed Vincent, faculty member of ANCOL, will deliver “Nicobar ke Kisse”, offering insights into indigenous tales, legends, and myths from the Nicobar Islands.

The event promises to be a vibrant tribute to the cultural legacy of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, blending traditional performances with storytelling to foster intergenerational exchange and artistic expression. The general public has been invited to witness the programme. (Story Based on PR)
