Forest Officials Seize Illegal Padauk Timber in Bimblitan, One Apprehended

In a major crackdown on illegal timber trade, officials of the Garacharma Forest Range have recently seized a consignment of illegally possessed Padauk sawn timber from an under-construction building in the Old Bimblitan area under Bimblitan village.

The operation was led by Mr. Shyam Sunder Rao, Forester (Beat Officer, Bimblitan Beat), with the active assistance of Mr. P. Papa Rao (RM), Mr. Randhir Soreng (RM), and Mr. Loganathan (RM). During the raid, the team recovered 9 pieces of Padauk sawn timber measuring 0.109 cubic meters.

One individual has been apprehended in connection with the case, and a Forest Offence Case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Forest Act, 1972, and the Andaman and Nicobar Forest Transit Pass Rule, 1966. Efforts are underway to trace the origin and supply chain of the illegally procured timber.

The operation was conducted under the overall supervision of the Range Officer, Garacharma Range.

Forest officials have urged the public to report any information regarding illegal forest or wildlife activities to the helpline number 03192-255228. Authorities have assured that the identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential.
