Forest Officials Seize Illegally Sawn Padauk Timber and Machinery in South Andaman

In a routine patrolling operation on the morning of 25th July 2025, forest officials of the Mannarghat Range under the South Andaman Division successfully detected and seized illegally sawn Padauk timber along with machinery and tools from Gaji Nallah near Madhuban, located within Mount Manipur National Park.

The operation was led by Forester Mr. D. Sekhar, supported by Forest Guard Mr. John Chrysostham and Mazdoors Mr. Ganesh Sahoo, Mr. Paul, and Mr. Vishal Minj, under the guidance of Forest Ranger Mr. M. Rasheed. The team conducted an intensive search of the area, leading to the discovery of 49 pieces of illegally sawn Padauk timber.

In addition to the timber, various machines and tools used for the illegal activity were seized. Two individuals involved in the offense were apprehended on the spot and handed over to the Wildlife Division, Sri Vijaya Puram, for further legal action.

Forest authorities have urged the public to report any suspicious or illegal activities related to forests and wildlife by calling the helpline at 03192-255228. The identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential.
