Forest Officials Seize Padauk and Teak Timber in Jirkatang Range

In an early morning operation on Tuesday, the South Andaman Forest Division seized a large quantity of illegally sawn timber from the Mile Tilak eastern Reserve Forest boundary and adjoining areas under the Jirkatang Range.

The patrolling team, led by Forester Mr. M.K. Ali with the support of Forest Guard Mr. Abdul Rehman T. and mazdoors Sanjai Kumar and P. Ummer, detected and seized 24 pieces of Padauk hand-sawn timber measuring 0.312 cubic metres, two pieces of Teak timber (0.03 cubic metres), and 20 jungle ballies.

The confiscated timber was handed over to the CO (HQ) at Mile Tilak for safe custody. A case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Indian Forest Act, 1927 against unknown persons.

The operation was conducted under the supervision of Mr. Anthony Tirkey, Forest Ranger, Jirkatang Range. The Forest Department has urged the public to report any information regarding illegal extraction of forest or wildlife produce to the helpline number 03192-255228. The identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential.
