The Circuit Bench of the Hon’ble Calcutta High Court at Port Blair has granted bail to Mr. K. Murugan, former Managing Director of the Andaman and Nicobar State Cooperative Bank Ltd. (ANSCB).

The bail was granted after counsel representing the Enforcement Directorate (ED) did not oppose the plea, citing Mr. Murugan’s medical condition. During the hearing, it was submitted before the Court that while in custody, Mr. Murugan underwent the removal of one kidney and also required amputation and surgical treatment of multiple fingers. It was further informed that his remaining kidney is also damaged.

Considering the submissions regarding his deteriorating health and medical complications during judicial custody, and in view of the ED counsel not opposing the plea on medical grounds, the Court allowed the bail application, subject to certain conditions.

Mr. Murugan is one of the accused in a case registered by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with alleged loan fraud in the Andaman and Nicobar State Cooperative Bank Ltd.
