Former Member of Parliament, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has appealed to the Chief Secretary of Andaman & Nicobar Administration, urging the provision of battery-operated passenger vehicles (buggies) to assist patients in accessing G B Pant Hospital.
Sharma’s proposal aims to enhance the hospital’s accessibility, particularly for vulnerable patients such as senior citizens, pregnant women, children, and individuals with physical disabilities. Currently, patients using bus must walk approximately 300 meters from the ANIIMS bus stop to the hospital entrance, a journey that often becomes arduous, especially under challenging weather conditions like heavy rains or intense sunlight.
In his letter, Sharma pointed out the physical strain this walk imposes on patients who are already unwell or in need of medical attention. To alleviate this difficulty, the former MP has suggested the deployment of battery-operated buggies—similar to those used at Ross Island and Veer Savarkar International Airport—that could transport patients directly from the bus stop to the hospital and back, making the process smoother and less stressful.
Sharma believes this initiative would significantly improve the overall experience for patients, ensuring they have a comfortable and accessible route to medical care. He has requested the Chief Secretary to consider this proposal and take the necessary steps to implement this service for the benefit of the public.
The proposed solution is expected to streamline patient movement, enhancing convenience and accessibility at G B Pant Hospital.
