Get Vaccinated against COVID-19 at Your Nearest Vaccination Centre in the Islands; Online Registration Mandatory for Now

Govt. of India has announced the second phase of COVID-19 Vaccination. In second phase of COVID-19 vaccination general public those above the age of 60 years and those between the age of 45 to 59 years with comorbidities will be vaccinated.

Andaman and Nicobar Islands have also started vaccinating the citizens who fall in the above mentioned categories. Govt. of India has announced that the Citizens who fall under the following conditions can either walk into a vaccination centre or register online to fix an appointment for their vaccination. Initially in Andaman and Nicobar Islands the citizens will only be able to get vaccinated after booking their appointments online.

It is being reported that due to lack of manpower the authorities of Andaman and Nicobar Islands have decided that they will only start the walk-in vaccinations after the drive for vaccinating the front line workers conclude.

The persons aged above 60 years can now directly book their appointment online from cowin.gov.in or on Aarogya Setu App and visit the Vaccination Centre on the scheduled date with the Photo ID which was used during online registration and get themselves vaccinated.

The persons who are aged between 45 and 59 with comorbidities are required to book their appointment online from cowin.gov.in or on Aarogya Setu App and also obtain a  Certificate of Comorbidity from a Registered Medical Practitioner. They will have to produce the certificate when they visit the centre for vaccination along with the Photo ID used during the registration.

Registered Medical Practitioners will issue the Certificate of Comorbidity if one suffers from any of the diseases or health conditions as mentioned below:

(1) Heart failure with hospital admission in the past one year (2) Post cardiac transplant/ Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) (3) Significant Left ventricular systolic dysfunction (LVEF < 40 percent) (4) Moderate or Severe Valvular Heart Disease (5) Congenital heart disease with severe PAH or Idiopathic PAH (6) Coronary Artery Disease with past CABG/ PTCA/ MI and Hypertension/ Diabetes on treatment (7) Angina and Hypertension/ Diabetes treatment (8) CT/MRI documented stroke and Hypertension/ Diabetes on treatment (9) Pulmonary artery hypertension and Hypertension/ Diabetes on treatment (10) Diabetes (>10 years or with complication) and Hypertension on treatment (11) Kidney/Liver/ Hematopoietic stem cell transplant: Recipient/ On wait-list (12) End-stage Kidney Disease on haemodialysis/ CAPD (13) Current prolonged use of oral corticosteroids/ immunosuppressant medications (14) Decompensated cirrhosis (15) Severe respiratory disease with hospitalisations in last two years/ FEVI <50 percent (16) Lymphoma/ Leukaemia/ Myeloma (17) Diagnosis of any solid cancer on or after July 1, 2020, or currently on any cancer therapy (18) Sickle Cell Disease/ Bone marrow failure/ Aplastic Anemia/ Thalassemia Major (19) Primary Immunodeficiency Diseases/ HIV infection (20) Persons with disabilities due to Intellectual disabilities/ Muscular Dystrophy/ Acid attack with the involvement of respiratory system/ Persons with disabilities having high support needs/ Multiple disabilities including deaf-blindness

The vaccines in the Govt. Hospitals will be provided free of cost to both the category of persons eligible for vaccination. Two doses of vaccines will be administered, the second dose will be administered 28 days after the first dose.
