In a bid to enhance rural livelihoods and promote sustainable animal husbandry practices, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services on 11th April 2025, distributed Ghungroo piglets and Vanaraja chicks to farmers of Wandoor village. The initiative was carried out through the Veterinary Dispensary, Manglutan, as part of the Department’s ongoing efforts to support income generation and nutritional security among rural households.
The Ghungroo piglets, a prolific indigenous breed from West Bengal known for its adaptability to low-input production systems, were provided to selected farmers. Alongside, day-old Vanaraja chicks—renowned for their resilience and suitability for backyard poultry—were also distributed.
The distribution event was held in the presence of Mr. Adhir Das, Gram Pradhan, Gram Panchayat Wandoor; Mr. Uttam Roy, Up-Pradhan; and Ms. Sukhalata Pahar, Member of the Panchayat.
Expressing his appreciation, Mr. Adhir Das lauded the department’s initiative, emphasizing its potential to improve the economic condition of local farmers through sustainable animal husbandry practices.
The Department continues to encourage such ventures as a means to boost income, improve nutrition, and create employment opportunities in rural areas.
