Sri Vijaya Puram, 14 April 2025

As part of a nationwide initiative, the Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India, has launched a special campaign from April 7 to 17, 2025, to register Platform and Gig Workers across the country. The campaign includes the organization of ‘Special Registration Camps’ aimed at enrolling these workers on the e-Shram portal.

Platform Workers are individuals who work outside the conventional employer-employee structure, using online platforms to offer services or solutions in exchange for payment. Similarly, Gig Workers are those who earn income by engaging in short-term or freelance work arrangements that also fall outside traditional employment frameworks.

This move follows the announcement in the Union Budget 2025–26, which proposed comprehensive support for Platform and Gig Workers, including their registration on the e-Shram portal, issuance of identity cards, and extension of health coverage under the Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY).

In line with the national campaign, the Labour Department of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration is calling on all Platform and Gig Workers in the islands to register themselves on the e-Shram portal at https://register.eshram.gov.in/#/user/platform-worker-registration.

Workers who are unable to complete the registration process online can visit the Labour Department office at Sri Vijaya Puram on any working days for assistance. For further information or support, individuals may contact the department at 03192-230157.
