Five girl students hailing from southern group studying in Dr. B.R Ambedkar Institute of Technology, Port Blair who were detected as COVID-19 positive in the test conducted for their travel to their respective home Islands are seeking the intervention of Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman in shifting them to quarantine centres.
These girl students have currently been quarantined at the houses of their respective local guardians and they are reportedly facing many problems.
Speaking to Nicobar Times one of the COVID-19 positive girl students informed that they were asked to vacate the girl’s hostel as only a few students were staying. She further informed that as the ship was announced and the COVID-19 test was being conducted, they shifted to the house of their local guardian believing that they will travel to their homes in the next few days. She further informed that in the test conducted for travelling by ship many students were detected as COVID-19 positive and were quarantined in the homes of their local guardians. She further added that now their local guardians are also facing problems because of them. She further added that we hail from various remote Islands and our local guardians are our distant relatives and their incomes have also stopped because of the mandatory quarantine imposed.
Further, these girls students informed Nicobar Times that their first semester exams are starting from 25th of January 2022 in online mode and because of poor internet connectivity they may not be able to attend their exams.
These students are now seeking the intervention of Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman in shifting them to quarantine centres as the staff of the District Control Room have failed to help them.
